Help us to help safeguard our NHS resources
A parliamentary accounts committee has estimated something like £100 million a year is wasted on medicines that never get used. In order to help reduce ongoing wastage, we have changed the length of repeat prescriptions we issue to TWO MONTHS supply at a time only.
Please be reassured that the availability of medication post Brexit is being closely monitored nationally. You are kindly asked not to stockpile your medication as this will create unnecessary stock shortages. Just order your usual quantities as normal. Thank you.
PPCs are available by 10 monthly direct debit instalment payments. The prescription prepayment certificates allow anyone to obtain all the prescriptions they need for £2 per week.
To Order Repeat Prescriptions
We want to make prescription re-ordering as accurate, efficient and easy to use as possible and are therefore unable to accept repeat prescription requests by telephone.
This will help to ensure there are no misunderstandings over medication being requested. It will also make our telephone lines more available for patients requesting appointments.
Ways to order a repeat prescription:
Please use the attached Repeat Prescription Request Form if you are making a request via post, fax or by hand.
Please allow at least 48 hours for the repeat prescription to be issued. If your repeat prescriptions go direct to a pharmacist, please allow 72 hours before collecting.
Housebound and infirm patients are still able to request prescriptions by telephone - please contact us for details.
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
From 1 April 2019:
If you need two items each month you can save around £80 with a 12 month PPC.
If you need three items each month you can save around £270 with a 12 month PPC.
Speak to your pharmacist about how you can apply for a certificate. In England, around 90 per cent of prescription items are dispensed free.
To Register for online services patients need to come into the surgery to provide photographic ID.

NHS Prescriptions for patients going abroad
At present the BMA recommend that doctors prescribe no more than three months supply of medicines for patients not in the country, as per the current regulations, stating:
“The NHS accepts responsibility for supplying ongoing medication for temporary periods abroad of up to 3 months. If a person is going to be abroad for more than three months then all that the patient is entitled to at NHS expense is a sufficient supply of his/her regular medication to get to the destination and find an alternative supply of that medication”.
